La Carrera Panamericana

Mexico's La Carrera Panamericana is one of the world's hardest Rally's for classic cars. Yesterday it stopped in the City of Guanajuato. So did I. Check out the following pictures to get a first impression...

Did you like all the curves...

...of those classic cars?

Than you can find a whole series of pictures in my new photo gallery "La Carrera Panamericana" or...

...you might want to visit my german Blog for another series of first impression pictures.

Have fun!

Museo de las Momias

O.k. I know, I have posted about the fascinating Museo de las Momias in the Mexican city of Guanajuato before. Click here to read that earlier post. But just before I flew to Switzerland and travelled for a while with my friend Markus, we have visited again.

Pretty spooky place, no age limit by the way, so you can take your kids there for a Sunday afternoon. Or just watch the pictures here and don't let your kids know and spare yourselfs from caring for them at night when they have nightmares. - Maybe know your kids have to come and care for you next night?

No matter whether small...

...or tall...

...there is a little bit of...

...all.

"I was not even born, when mama and I passed away"

"Hey why were you guys all burried in socks and I have to stand here all bare feet?

RIP...

...or maybe not so much in peace?

The place for resupply.

The Museo de las Momias is underneath the cementry where the momias come from.

Guanajuato; Museo de las Momias

Not your usual Holiday posting: A couple of days ago I have visited the Museo de las Momias in Guanajuato.  The interesting thing is that the bodies on display here are not really all that old, nowhere close to the age of ancient mummies in Agytian mueseums for example.

On a cementry here in the city of Guanajuato a body will typically lie for 5 or 7 years, should the family decided not to pay for an extended period, that is when the graves will be cleared. Since the climate is dry and the bodies stored in their grave with practically no oxygen they mummify within this short period. There is no other treatment it is just the circumstances. Kind of a spooky place. In the 70ties the bodies were just standing in a room, directly accessible. Unfortunately tourists started breaking pieces of taking them home as souveniers. Many years later a proper museum was established and the bodies are now displayed behind glass.

Should you be in Guanajuato and decided to visit the mueseum follow the well marked signs from the town center to the west. This is about a 25 to 30 minutes walk from the the center (Jardin) of town. Should you be driving it is marked as well, however the way is different and shorter should for pedestrians. Parking is available in front of the museum.
